island park Trail
Okanogan, Wa
Overview
Created by a 12th grade English class at the local high school, this small gem is located just south of First Avenue in the city of Okanogan and plays host to a rich variety of native birds, plants, fish, and many mammals.
Description
Old growth deciduous trees provide a shady riparian environment along the banks of the Okanogan River, only a short distance from the downtown business area. Easy to find and a pleasure to explore, this well-established hiking, walking, and running trail includes approximately 3 miles of graded trails plus opportunities for birding, fishing, and wildlife photography.
Notes
The collaborative interpretive signage was created by Okanogan Conservation District and local high school students. While on the trail, be on the lookout for poison ivy and mosquitoes. |
