lookout Mountain Trail
This not to be missed 3.0 mile hike (round trip) has an 1100' elevation gain taking you to an abandoned USFS lookout perched atop one of the most commanding hilltops in the Methow. Remember to bring enough water, sunblock, a wind-shirt, and appropriate footwear.
The Lookout Mountain Trail starts with moderately steep terrain in a lush forest a mile in, you will be rewarded with an easier climb and glorious views. The trail then leads to a historic tower with panoramic views of the Sawtooth, North Cascades, and Pasayten mountain ranges. Total elevation gain is approximately 1200' but the view from the tower is worth every foot of it.
Look for Mt. Baker to the northeast.
Head south on Twisp River Road for 1/4 mile to a left turn onto the Lookout Mountain Road which connects with FS road 4400-200 and is followed (Note: rocky, rough with occasional blow-downs) for 6.25 miles (one-way) to a well-established parking area.
